Many different style eras have set their stamp on Berchtesgaden Royal Castle: from Romanesque to Gothic and Baroque, right on to Rococo. Throughout the ages, it has been expanded and modified again and again.

Tours

May 16th until October 15th
Sunday until Friday 10:30 am, 12 am, 2 pm, 3:30 pm

Closed on Saturdays

October 16th until May 15th
Monday until Thursday 11 am and 2 pm. Friday 11 am      

Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Closed also on December 24 and 31, also on Mardi Gras.

General tours

Viewing Berchtesgaden Castle is only possible with a guided tour and covers about 30 of the 214 rooms. Guided tours are offered all year round.

Our themed tours

Experience the castle in the light of past centuries or enjoy musical surprises in rooms that are not shown during the general tour.

A little castle music

..with classical arias and modern works during the tour with our trained soprano Franziska Brandner, who also accompanies the advent tour.

Advent in the castle

..guided tours on advent Sundays with advent texts, carols and candlelight. You will see otherwise inaccessible rooms such as the private chapel of the prince provosts and the East Asia collection.

Evening tours by candlelight

..guided tour by dimmed chandeliers in the light of 800 candles. Flutists, a harpist and a medieval procession of monks with chorales bring the castle`s past to life (during christmas season)

Special tours

The following rooms can be visited as part of a special guided tour. Porcelain Room, East Asia room and the private chapel. The tour can also be booked outside opening times or with focus on particular themes of the Wittelsbach history.
